The new trainee lasted only about two hours, which is unfortunate, especially given his 19 years of experience. The issue was that he didn’t understand that Jesse was in charge. Since most of our techs have school-age kids, I’m keeping the routes lighter today so everyone can wrap up by 4 p.m. and take their kids trick-or-treating. If, by chance, they can’t complete their routes in time, they will be taken care of on Friday. Rumors of rain make it unclear how many visitors we or anyone else will get tonight. It’s a win-win for us—any leftover candy is all mine! Though I suppose I should share some with my wife, Sheila. I am a Type II diabetic, but I don’t have the willpower to turn down candy.
