Sprinkler Blowouts For Friday, November 15, 2024

Yesterday was a whirlwind! Our family welcomed a new granddaughter, Willow (6 lbs, 14 oz, and 20 inches long), into the world. At the same time, I underwent a procedure to have several nerves in my spine burned off, wrangled a spirited 3-year-old, and visited our kids and new granddaughter at the hospital. On top of that, I managed some challenges with customers who seem to have trouble reading instructions, audited form submissions to eliminate duplicates, and reviewed payments. Now it’s 3:30 a.m. on Friday, and I’m still at it, running on fumes. I’m so exhausted I might have missed mentioning a few things!

We’ve added the route Jesse missed yesterday to today’s schedule and a few additional stops. Jesse will be back in action for sprinkler blowouts on Monday.

I’ve developed several scripts to streamline my work. These scripts help me track data more efficiently, identify mistakes and duplicate customer submissions, generate quick reports to track new and repeat customers, and analyze trends in cancellations and non-cancellations and I made an exciting discovery.

An overwhelming 99% of our cancellations come from new customers who correctly fill out our form when service is no longer needed. New customers are also responsible for 100% of our non-cancellations. For those unfamiliar, a non-cancellation occurs when we arrive at a property only to discover someone else has already completed the work and the customer did not submit the required cancellation form as agreed upon during sign-up.

This high percentage suggests (feel free to share your thoughts in the comments) that more and more people each year seem to disregard the terms or fail to follow simple instructions. Is it laziness? A belief that the terms don’t apply to them? Whatever the reason, it seems to be an increasing issue, making me wonder what’s happening in the world today and what our future holds. “Oh, that was the nuclear bomb button I pushed? My bad, I thought it was an Easy button. I guess I should have read the instructions.”
